I was messing around with Gadgets earlier and came across this app named Quick Launch. You can dl it here:

Its a great little app to unclutter your desktop, and make it look clean. I attached a pic of my desktop for a little preview. All you do is move all your desktop icons into a folder off your desktop into my documents or something, then just drag the icons into the launcher, then you can organize them how you want them. You cant move/delete the recycling bin, so you cleverly hide it behind the Launcher!
