Wireless stuff

Ok, so I managed to setup a wireless network with only a wireless networking card. The main reason I did this was because I wanted to connect my ipod to the internet which I can do but only when it is on. So what I am asking is, is there any way I can keep my internet connection active if my computer is off?

Also another strange thing is when my ipod is off my wireless connection also turns off.

no, if the wirelss card is connected to your computer, and the computer is off, so is yur internet connection. why didnt you just buy a wireless router, cause even if yur comp is off your router is always on. i had an ipod touch and it was always connected to my network as long as i was home of course.
