Ok here's what I'm looking for:

Probably an ASUS (doesnt have to be Asus) AMD AGP motherboard / processor / ram combo - most bang for the buck type situation....

i know it's rediculous to go AGP but gotta work with the parts and budget i have on hand.... Smile

I like www.newegg.com so if anyone has some good advice on what to get, or links - it would be mucho appreciated Smile

didn't really have a set budget in mind... the more it costs the more i may have to wait Smile

guess i figured i could get something high-end in the AGP standard fairly cheap... atm, i have a full size ATX case, decent power supply, plenty of cooling fans, sound card, and the nvidia 7600 gs i just bought, which didn't solve my issues... also use a SATA HD so my new board will need those connects..

probably just want to order all the parts from one place, I've done the one part here, one part there thing before, to save a few $$$, and it's usually a pain in the ass.

Heres my idea of a inexpensive, and good machine for ya:

Motherboard - $44

CPU - RECOMMENED - $160

CPU - Good, But not as good - $100

All that stuff is directX10 and Vista compatible, am I gonna have any trouble with windows XP home 32bit version?

As far as the power supply I hope it's still working ok, theres a chance that could be part of the problem I had with the last pc.... but it's probably the motherboard or processor....... If it still works, I guess I'm right on the borderline at 550w

ya i had some question about that myself... hmmm
most of the newer cards are listed as dx10, and i would assume they are backwards compatible, but not sure..

At least I got A&A running on a backup pc, so I can take a little time, decide whats best, wait for prices to drop some more, etc..

to put it simple: yes, directx 10 cards are backwards compatible.

to put it long:

if you buy for example an nvidia 8000 series, or a ati 2000 series graphics card, they will work on both xp and vista, while being direct x 10 cards. i currently am running an ati 2350 under 9.0c directx with vista 32bit...

btw, if you really want a good machine...this setup costed me 748 bucks (well, without the 12.5% discount it would have...payed 655 for it in the end)

I can run battlefield with all graphics on max, AA on 4x (but i shut off AA b/c it gets laggy when artie'd)

quad core processor @ 2.4 ghz
cache: 8192KB
bus: 333mhz
internal memory: 2048 (changed to 4 gb since it has 4 slots and i had 2 more sticks of 1gb lieing around)
HD: 500gb
ati 2350 HD graphics card
windows vista home premium...
