Hi everyone
i'm buying a new comp soon, but i have a few questions, if anyone wanna help
This is the list I'm currently considering.
Questions i have are, is there a noticeable difference in performance of gts and gtx cards?
Should i go for 3 or 4 gb ram? (i'm not planning to use vista, XP all the way)
Do i need to install some additional coolers? If so, will any of the specified size fit?
Is this motherboard ok? I chose it just by randomly clicking one of the choices a website suggested for this cpu.
Or if you have some other comments, any advice will be appreciated

Aya:
This is what I would do, being in IT for 15 years spoiled me.
The cost for RAM is fairly in-expensive, if you are bying three gigs of ram, just go with 4
With that said;
"[BOX] Socket 775 4Mb L2 FSB 1333 Intel Core2 Duo 3.00 Ghz (E6850)
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Socket775, P35, DDR2-1066, FSB1333, PCI-E, "
Personally I would go with AMD, processor runs a little hotter but a good fan will do the trick, go with and AMD 64x2 3600 or better, for gaming you cant beat it.
"SATA, LAN1000, ATX"
thats fine
"3x 1gb DDR2 SDRAM Kingston ValueRAM KVR800D2N5/1G (PC6400, 800mhz)"
Kensington is good memory, as I stated earlier, go with 4gig
"768Mb <PCI-E> DDR-3 Leadtek PX8800GTX TDH (RTL) +DualDVI+TV Out+SLI <GeForce 8800GTX>"
Nvidia...GeForce..............I need say nothing more, excellent choice, I would go with PNY, never had an issue with them.
"500gb Hitachi "Deskstar T7K500 HDT725050VLA360" 7200rpm 16mb (SATA II)"
Good drive no issues there.
"ATX 600W Thermaltake ToughPower (W0103RE) Active PFC, FAN 14cm, Retail"
Thats fine
"Miditower Chieftec BG-02B-B-SL Black E-ATX 400W"
thats fine
"Pioneer DVD±RW+CD/RW DVR-212DBK [double layer] Black SATA OEM"
good choice
I put togeather a killer system for Jengaleng so if you want be to get some specs out to you let me know, just PM me.

for an 8800 GTx, a 600 watt PSU will be insufficient power, especially if you ever plan to go SLI. Look for a PSU with a 12volt 40amp rail. The PSU i use is the Ultra X3 1000W and it is more than enough power, for any components you have and it is energy efficient. |

Thanks for the replies.
Hawkeye, are you sure? I was told 500 watt will suffice for the card and 3 hdd's. Colt said 600w is fine. Who is right? I don't plan to go SLI, i'd rather buy new shoes than a 2nd video card.
Colt, I dont think they sell PNY here, i've never even heard of it before this.
What about fans? Should i get more than theres supplied with those components? |
